i was chatting on the phone this morning when i heard someone blaring on their horn. then i heard loud scraping. a truck backing out of the driveway next door scraped the side of a red wagon that seemed to think it had the right of way even though the truck was clearly out in traffic before the car raced up the hill (very common here and annoying). why didn’t the car stop when it saw the truck in the road, i thought to myself? (i can see the road from my window). then they pulled over and were exchanging information so i went back to the task at hand. within ten minutes i heard a huge crash, again, outside my window. i looked out, this time it was a cab, stopped in the road (there is no shoulder here to park on) and two cars had smashed into it and the one’s horn was blaring and wouldn’t stop and smoke was pouring from it. police came, firetrucks came, two ambulances, and traffic, on this two lane, winding road that is the only way out, came to a complete standstill for at least an hour. don’t worry, there were no serious injuries. two little boys, who i wish i had gotten a photo of, sat eating ice cream cones and watching the whole event.
